【EXHIBITION】HARAIZUMI AIR 2026 SPRING

 

この春、世界中からアーティストが集結！This spring, artists from all over the world are gathering!

 

この春、世界中の国々から、原泉に様々なジャンルのアーティストが集結します！

アーティストたちは、豊かな自然環境の中で、4週間の日々を自身と向き合いながら制作活動に臨みます。
6/10-7/7に滞在の3カ国のアーティストたちは、この地で何を見、体験し、制作に打ち込んで来たのでしょうか。

作品として表現されるものは一体どんなものなのか、国籍もバックグラウンドも全く異なるアーティストたちの思考を垣間見ることができるのが、この成果発表展です。

 

This spring, artists from various genres around the world will gather at Haraizumi!

Surrounded by rich natural scenery, the artists will spend four weeks engaging in creative work while facing themselves.
What did the artists from four different countries—who will be staying from May 6 to June 2—see and experience here, and how did they devote themselves to their creative work?

This exhibition showcases the results of their work, offering a peek into the minds of artists with completely different nationalities and backgrounds—and into what they have expressed through their art.

Mazerick Betko & Hugh Patton  (アラバマ州、アメリカ🇺🇸)

 

マゼリック・ベトコとヒュー・パットンは、現在アラバマ州バーミンガムを拠点に活動する学際的なアーティストである。
マゼリック・ベトコは、アーティスト、作家、作曲家として、身体を社会的・個人的な変容を生み出す媒介として捉えた作品を手掛けている。マゼリックは、一般向けライティング講座や個人コンサルティングに加え、アラバマ州バーミンガムにあるアラバマ・スクール・オブ・ファイン・アートで、創作文学と学際的メディアアートを教えている。マゼリックの文章はオンライン誌に掲載されており、近々『t’ART Magazine』や『Create Birmingham』の作品集でも発表される予定である。また、アート作品は、メイン州ポートランド、メリーランド州ボルチモア、アラバマ州グリーンズボロなどで展示されてきた。マゼリックは、私たちの行動が、いかにして尊厳を中核に据えたより持続可能なコミュニティの基盤をもたらすかについて、人々と共有しつながりを築きたいと願っている。
ヒュー・パットンは、制作を行う場所の環境や文脈に応答するサイト・レスポンシブなアプローチを用い、彫刻、インスタレーション、パフォーマンス、ドローイングを横断しながら作品を展開している。彼の制作は、場所や土地が持つ物理的、象徴的、文化的、歴史的な諸特性を提示し、その背景を読み解くことを通じて、より広範な社会的・文化的テーマへと視野を広げることを目指している。作品の主なテーマには、労働、記憶、身体、歴史、風景、そして相互のつながりが含まれる。パットンの芸術家としての歩みは、経験の豊富さを問わず多様なアーティストたちとの協働や支援の実践によって特徴づけられている。

 

Mazerick Betko and Hugh Patton are interdisciplinary artists who currently work and live in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mazerick Betko is an artist, writer and composer whose work frames the body as a catalyst for transformation. In addition to public writing workshops and private consulting, Mazerick teaches Creative Writing and Interdisciplinary Media Arts at the Alabama School of Fine Art in Birmingham, AL. Mazerick’s writing has been published in online journals and will soon appear in anthologies by t’ART Magazine and Create Birmingham. Their visual art has been exhibited in Portland, ME, Baltimore, MD, and Greensboro, AL. They hope to connect with others around how our actions can result in a more sustainable social fabric with dignity at the center.
Hugh Patton’s work relies on a site responsive practice that incorporates elements of sculpture, installation, performance, and drawing. The aim of his work is to exemplify and contextualize a place or site through its physical, symbolic, cultural, and historical properties in order to speak to a broader context or subject matter. His works’ main themes involve labor, memory, the body, history, landscapes, and interconnection. Patton’s work has been exhibited nationally and abroad. Patton’s journey in the arts has been defined by opportunities to collaborate with and support other artists at varying levels of experience.

 

 

イーヤン・チュア  Eeyan Chuah (ペナン、マレーシア🇲🇾)

 

イーヤンはマレーシア出身のアーティストです。彼女の作品は、主に植物や自然の美しさを讃えるものです。彼女は植物に魅了され、それらを描き、スケッチし、写真に収めています。

ここ2年間、彼女は水墨画、印章彫刻、木彫りといった、もはや一般的ではなくなった伝統的な技法を探求してきました。彼女は、まるで遥か昔に去った世代と対話をしているかのように、過去の美学との確かなつながりを感じています。

一方で、イーヤンは現代的な代替技法の探求も楽しんでいます。現在は、写真と版画の境界を跨ぐような美学を持つ「ポラロイド・エマルジョン・リフト」の実験に取り組んでいます。彼女は、自身の祖先と現在の自己を結ぶ連続した流れを見つめ、その流れを語る手段として、伝統的なメディアと現代的なメディアを融合させる可能性を探求している。

Eeyan hails from Malaysia. Her works are mainly an ode to the beauty of plants and nature. She marvels at plants, she paints them, draws them and takes pictures of them.

For the past two years she has been exploring Chinese ink paintings, and seal and wood carving, traditional skills that are not commonly practiced anymore. She feels a sort of tangible connection to the aesthetics of the past – like having a conversation with previous generations long passed.

By contrast, Eeyan also likes to explore contemporary alternative processes. She is currently experimenting with polaroid emulsion lifts, which’s aesthetics feels like a crossover of photography and print. She hopes to explore ways she could merge both the old and the current mediums as a way to inform the stream of movement that connects her ancestry to her present self.

 

 

ルーク・ホワイト  Luc White   (ロンドン、イギリス🇬🇧)

 

ルークは、絵画やドローイングを専門としつつ、ビデオやパフォーマンスといった他のメディアも取り入れる、複合領域的なアーティストです。

ルークは、「庭」というテーマを通じて、人間が自然を支配しようとする試みを探求してきました。その最初の着想は、ゴルフコースのグリーンキーパーとして働いた経験、そしてその後、墓地や火葬場で働いた経験から得られました。このプロジェクトでは、自然に対抗して労力を費やすことにおける葛藤、克服、あるいは無益さを探求したいと考えています。

ルークの絵画は、主に粉砕した顔料に卵またはアクリルメディウムを混ぜて制作されています。
丹念に塗り重ねられた筆致や、絵の具の不均一な質感が、制御しようとする葛藤を表現しています。原泉での経験を通じて、ルークは、禅や、自然の風景、庭園に見出されるロマンティシズム、そしてそれらを手なずける上で私たちが果たす役割について、探求したいと考えています。

Luc is a multi-disciplinary artist specialising in painting and drawing alongside other media such as video and performance.

Luc has been exploring our attempts at controlling nature, using the theme of the garden. The initial inspiration came from working as a greenkeeper on a golf course and then at a graveyard/crematorium. In this project, he wants to explore the struggle, mastery or futility in labouring against nature.

Luc’s paintings are primarily made using crushed pigment mixed with either egg or acrylic medium.
The laboured application, inconsistency of the paint help to convey the struggle of control. Through Haraizumi, Luc hopes to gain a greater understanding of Zen, the romanticism of the natural landscape and garden, along with the role we play in taming it.
